Wireless Broadband Alliance, an advocate for seamless WiFi access for users

A bastion of seamless WiFi solutions, it was only a matter of time before Trustive joined forces with the renowned Wireless Broadband Alliance!

Trustive, a leading international WiFi access provider and No1 in Europe, is very pleased to be able to confirm that it joined the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) this summer. Established in 2003 by a group of visionary telecom operators, the WBA seeks to engage its members in order to enable a seamless WiFi experience with the benefit of the end-user in mind; a goal that resonates closely with that of Trustive.

After more than 5 years in the WiFi business and the successfully creation of a vast global network of 300,000 WiFi hotspots spread across 130 countries, Trustive’s decision to now join the WBA may come as a surprise to some. However, Trustive appreciates the growing importance of WiFi and thus of collaborative organisations like the WBA in maintaining standards for end-users.

Why is WiFi growing in importance?

Over the last 10 years, travellers have become telecoms experts in their own right thanks to the proliferation and growing affordability of revolutionary new devices (smartphones, tablets, netbooks etc.) and the demand for bandwidth to sustain these customers’ expectations is way above and beyond that required by traditional mobile phone customers.

The smartphone and tablet users’ desire to continue their ‘online lifestyle’ (stream TV, videos or digital radio) whilst on the move means that everyone is quickly becoming experts at comparing WiFi and 3G services, understanding the associated costs and the implications in terms of speed and quality of service. Shunning their domestic mobile operators, travellers are happy to exploit new technologies (VoIP, IM) and embrace independent WiFi service providers, like Trustive, as an integral part of their mobile internet access portfolio in order to save costs.

WiFi may be hot again, but seamless access is essential!

Customers may appreciate that WiFi is faster and cheaper than 3G, but ease of access remains essential in order to ensure a good end-user experience and retain customer loyalty. Trustive has always worked and will continue to work to provide a secure infrastructure and seamless WiFi experience that travellers can rely on. This has been primarily achieved by using the latest technology to establish secure interconnections with Trustive’s 80+ operator partners, thereby creating a unified, global network of premium WiFi hotspots to which Trustive customers can have seamless access. Seamless connectivity is achieved using Trustive’s WiFi software (available for multiple platforms) that detects and automates access to Trustive’s WiFi hotspots.

WiFi as a viable 3G data offload solution for mobile operators

In response to the growing number of bandwidth greedy devices/customers, mobile operators are facing harsh choices – raising large quantities of capital with little or no guaranteed return in the short to medium term, raising retail prices and/or limiting customer bandwidth allowances, none of which would be popular with customers or shareholders. There is no escaping the wave of new devices scheduled for release over the coming months and years, nor the enthusiasm of the ‘net generation’ for their ‘online lifestyle’. Juggling the need for reliable, high quality, high-speed mobile internet access against the cost of providing such a service is therefore to be the key task for mobile operators. However there is another, remarkably low-cost solution available that has been largely overlooked up until now; namely to offload 3G data traffic onto WiFi networks.

Trustive has had the privilege of working with many national and international operators in order to offer them viable roaming and 3G data offload solutions that are tailored to their individual requirements and can be integrated directly into their existing billing and CRM systems.

Christian VanGhelder, Trustive’s managing director, summed up Trustive’s hopes for this new partnership “Like the WBA, Trustive has always been an advocate for the end-user, for a seamless WiFi service that is high-speed, high-quality, reliable and reasonably priced. We’ve endeavoured to educate our users in the pitfalls of excessive 3G usage abroad and to provide customers with the tools to manage their WiFi usage effectively (WiFi software to guarantee seamless access, online account management tools for budget control, a secure web browser to provide additional security when required etc.). It was therefore only a matter of time before Trustive joined the WBA and we now look forward to many happy years working together to achieve this common goal.”

Trustive, a leading worldwide mobile internet access provider and the No1 WiFi access provider in Europe, is very pleased to announce a partnership with Skype. This partnership will give Skype customers access to 2,800 premium hotspots located across France through Skype WiFi.

Trustive primarily offers travellers comprehensive WiFi coverage by combining the hotspot locations of more than 80+ leading WiFi operators into one unified, global network of 300,000+ premium WiFi hotspots in 130 countries.  Trustive also works with operators wanting to create or extend an existing international portfolio by providing their customers with seamless, international WiFi access to Trustive's premium network.

Skype WiFi provides travellers, whether they are on a business trip or enjoying their holidays abroad, a cost-effective and easy way to get wireless Internet access. With Skype WiFi, they can use their Skype Credit and pay only for the minutes they use. They can do whatever they want online with no limit to upload or download volume and without having to pay data roaming fees for connecting to a mobile network while abroad. To access Trustive hotspots, prices start from $0.14 / €0.10 / £0.08 (inclusive of VAT) per minute and users will only be charged for the minutes they are connected to the Internet.

Christian VanGhelder, Trustive’s managing director, firmly believes in the inherently symbiotic nature of this new partnership: “Over recent years, Trustive’s annual reports have shown the rapid growth of VoIP and video communication offerings that are used by travellers looking to avoid the otherwise expensive roaming costs associated with traditional voice services. Trustive customers did in fact vote Skype as one of the top 3 winning software providers in our annual report 2010-2011. We are therefore confident that Skype customers will quickly discover the joys of Trustive’s comprehensive WiFi coverage in France.”

Shadi Mahassel, Product Manager for Skype WiFi comments: “Adding Trustive hotspots in France to the extensive network of over 1 million WiFi hotspots worldwide is another important step to give travellers handy and cost effective wireless access, whether they want to browse the Internet, update their travel blog, check email, use Skype, update Twitter, upload photos or download music or ebooks.”

To enjoy wireless access, users just need to download Skype WiFi on their laptop or iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 4.1 or above with multitasking) and make sure they have some Skype Credit. Skype WiFi is made available through WiFi operators around the world. For a complete list of supported hotspots, visit skype.com/go/skypewifi

http://www.trustive.com/static/upload/Affiliate_ISICLogo.jpgISIC WiFi pass holders can get free top-ups of their Trustive WiFi passes simply by providing feedback on their WiFi experiences in designated countries

Trustive, a leading international WiFi access provider and No1 in Europe, is very pleased to be able to extend their existing partnership with the International Student Identity Card Association (ISIC). Since June 2011, ISIC card holders have been able to get exclusive discounts on Trustive WiFi passes via the ISIC website and now from September 2011, ISIC students can get free top-ups of their Trustive WiFi passes simply by providing feedback on their WiFi experiences in designated countries.

Trustive already has a range of systems and tools in place to monitor its extensive and complex network of 300,000 WiFi hotspots but would like to go a step further. Trustive’s aim is to test the perceived availability, usability, speed and overall quality of its international network, at a local level & from the point of view of regular WiFi users. Thus all ISIC WiFi pass holders are being invited to provide feedback about their WiFi experiences at Trustive hotspots in a select number of countries, the “testing zone.” The testing zone will change each quarter and ISIC card holders will be kept informed about countries included via the ISIC website as well as via ISIC’s social media and online marketing channels (facebook, twitter, newsletters etc.).

The testing zone for Q4 2011 (valid until 31/12/2011) includes all Trustive hotspots located in Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Russia, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. ISIC WiFi pass holders will need to submit their feedback via e-mail to community@trustive.com or via Trustive’s Testing Community facebook group page.

Trustive’s WiFi footprint is accessible to all Trustive customers via Trustive’s WiFi software (available for various devices via www.trustive.com), which detects and automatically connects customers to Trustive WiFi hotspots. For up-to-date information about Trustive’s WiFi coverage, customers can consult Trustive’s online WiFi hotspot locator (www.trustive.com/hotspots/).
